The kangaroo has a unique place in our mind because of the pouch on its belly, with a little one peeping out of it.
That does not, however, mean that it is the only animal to have a pouch. In fact, the kangaroos are just one species in a wide family of various animals having pouches for their babies. It is called the marsupial family, because of the ‘marsupium’, the name given to the mothers pouch. These animals give birth to their babies early and it is the pouch that protects the baby while it continues to grow.
